Nolan B. Y. Fan

We met by chance—two professionals from different worlds who quickly realized we were asking the same fundamental questions about human freedom.

Jacquelyn spent years watching lives changing in simple and honest moments of self-recognition and vulnerability. While Nolan's experience in team and organizational leadership showed him that the most powerful shifts in individuals and organizations happened when people stopped performing and started being real.

Our conversations revealed a shared frustration: most personal development approaches are either too clinical or too superficial. We wanted something different—practical, direct, grounded in real human experience.

Institute of Self emerged from that conversation. We share a core belief that: transformation happens when we live fully, in integrity with the truth of who we are now—in each present moment.

Together, we believe that healing and effectiveness are not separate paths. It's the same one. Drawing from our experiences in psychotherapy practice and organizational leadership: our programs give you an opportunity to bridge deep inner work with powerful outer impact, transforming your life inside-out.

Our VISION

We created Institute of Self for people who are looking for self work programs grounded in modern science, practical philosophy, tangible outcomes.

We want to leverage your personal agency and develop your own process of self-inquiry so that you are equipped to expand your life in a constantly evolving world.

Our APPROACH

We believe transformation happens through:

  • Radical self-honesty.
  • Courage to face reality.
  • Willingness to take responsibility.
  • Consistent action.

When people commit to this process, everything changes. Not through grand gestures, but through incremental, intentional choices in daily life.

This isn't about becoming someone else. It's about becoming more of who you already are—without apology, without performing, and without resistance.

Our approach combines:

  • Psychological insight
  • Practical leadership strategies
  • Unfiltered human experience

We're not here to fix you. We're here to give you space to free yourself.

Theory & PRactice

Our Philosophy

At the core of our philosophy is the belief that true change only happens when self-inquiry is paired with present moment experience and practice. So, instead of teaching, our top priority is to create spaces where you can engage with your process of self-inquiry and practice new ways of living and being.

Change is our natural state.

Our lives change, not when we try to become someone better—someone we're not—but when we fully commit to who we are in the present moment.

The power of self-inquiry.

Honest self-examination and self-awareness are our most powerful levers for personal transformation and meaningful life shifts.

Truth over comfort.

When we allow ourselves to live truthfully, even when uncomfortable, we create freedom, connection, and personal power more than any other version of ourselves.

Insight into action.

Understanding and insight isn't valuable until we translate that learning into concrete habits of thinking, relating, and living.

Our work finds its roots in many methodologies and schools of thought, including but not limited to: American pragmatism, autodidacticism, analytical psychology, behavioural psychology, Buddhist philosophy, coaching psychology, depth psychology, epistemology, Gestalt therapy, GROW model, humanist psychology, parts work, phenomenology, psychodrama, Taoist philosophy, transformational leadership, and more.
